What do homeowners ask about Garbage Disposal Repair?
Is my disposal repairable or does it need replacement?
Jams, tripped resets, and switch issues are almost always repairable. Leaks from the housing (not the flange) usually mean replacement, the housing is the body and can't be resealed. Units over 10 years old with any major failure are usually better to replace than repair.
How much does a new disposal cost installed?
Most replacements run $320–$520 installed, depending on the brand you choose. InSinkErator Evolution Compact is our most common mid-range recommendation at around $420 installed. Waste King is a budget option; Pro series units are premium.
Can you install a disposal with a dishwasher hookup?
Yes, every disposal install includes the dishwasher drain connection. On new installs, we knock out the dishwasher plug on the new unit so the dishwasher drains properly (missing this is the #1 cause of dishwasher backups after a new disposal install).
My disposal just hums when I turn it on. What's wrong?
Almost always a jam. There's a hex key slot on the bottom of most units, insert the key, work it back and forth until the flywheel breaks free, press the red reset button on the bottom, and try again. If it's still humming, call us, you might have a seized motor.
Do you handle leaking sink flanges?
Yes. A leaking top (where the disposal mounts into the sink) usually means the plumber's putty has dried out or the mount was never tightened properly. We unmount, reseat with fresh sealant, and test. Under $200 in most cases.
